Above the Doors of Pelham Manor

Poem Body

above the doors Of Pelham Manor
flew the not so honorable banner
of the family steeped in history
some of it shady, most a mystery.

now, the Pelham family have gone
children make up spooky songs,
and long is the legendary tale
of how they died, one boy impaled...

How his siblings wailed
The older sister, victim to the manor's mister
Every night while mother slept
Oh, how she wept

Found her daughter hanging
A note pinned upon her chest
Spilling family secrets
Father knew what was best

The manor’s walls if spoke,
Would tell how the family broke
What father did to end their strife,
Be the savior of thy life.

He took it upon himself to brew,
A cauldron of enchanted stew,
To wipe the family’s mark from all,
Never again would one hear their call.

At Pelham Manor when night finally falls
Ghostly shadows wander the empty halls
They murmur of life and whisper of death
Speak of the murder of long ago Elizabeth

Went to bed and next morning she did not rise
Her death was quickly covered by a blanket of lies
Now no one dare utter her long forgotten name
To keep the family crest free from a dark red stain

This house was known for mysteries untold
A shrieking cry can be heard echoing from the basement
Though many could not unfold
The loud thumping of the crying wood

Many said the family of Elizabeth
A picture hung from the wall
If you stared too long you will see the eyes peeking back at you
Moving too and fro if you only knew

Despite it all I chance to stay
and soon the sun deserts the sky
and the world turns black from gray
far away a wolf pack starts its cry

And the house still creaks and moans
declaring it is fraught with age
while through the windows a tree's bones
crack as the wind starts to rage

It blows clouds to cover the moon
It’s dark as the inside of a black cow
time races, midnight is coming soon
a sheen of sweat builds on my brow

The shadows fade into dark
the wind begins to howl
I light a candle with a spark
see the monster's dripping jowl's

Face to face, I am with it
I don't want to see no more!
Now my legs are wet with shit
I cower broken on the floor

Please don't eat me, I scream aloud
The candle flame goes out
The moon appears from behind a cloud
And I have no time to shout

I open my mouth but
without a doubt
It's all over me
I feel the hot pee
down to my knee
In horror I finally scream
Get away from me!

Oh the horror! every time.
The writing always takes us here
I always seem to find a rhyme
Just not a fan of gore or fear

I guess this monster lives inside
Devours psyche from within
The more of him I try to hide
The more he bleeds right through my skin
