Dear Heart, One More Time

Poem Body

Dear heart, this is no easy road
We've set ourselves to take
The rocks are sharp, the falls are steep,
It's so easy to break
Over the stress, the hopes, the fears,
The dreams unrealized.
This road was easier to walk, dear heart,
When it was fantasized.

But we, dear heart, don't walk in dreams,
We've chosen a different way.
We've found that we are more afraid
Of 'What could not.' than 'what may-'
What may? Well anything, dearest heart,
The highest and the low
Are ours to find, conquer, and own
If we will choose to go.

And more than that, dear heart, keep going;
This path is not one step.
It is an endless winding climb
Where no less than our best
Will mount the summit, and declare
"Eureka! I am found!"
Before we sight a higher height
And chase the rising ground.

Even so, dear heart, one step
Is just enough to take
The quest of man from earth to heaven
And break the laws we make.
"It can't be done!" Oh, is that so?
Dear heart, what do you think?
Will you seek out the great Unknown
And stand upon its brink?

Losing is gaining; to fall is to fly;
And there is joy in the climb.
Dear heart, you've chosen hardest path,
Now choose it one more time.

This is great stuff. I love the rhyme and rhythm. A few little bobbles in the lines: "
"The highest and [the] low"
"Are ours [to] find, conquer and [to] own".
The near rhyme in "And there is joy in the climb".
and "Now choose it one more time", is perfect!
Nicely done on your first post! ~ Geezer.

Hello!
An inspiring poem! So much here - "But we, dear Heart, don't walk in dreams...", "...the path is not one step. It is an endless, winding climb...",
"... to fall is to fly." Inspiring words that seem to be well understood and personally experienced. Such polished poetry and encouragement. I'm really enjoying your "Dear Heart" pieces.
Thank you!

Yes, the "Dear Heart" series is something I've developed a habit of over the past two years - sort of a journaling to myself, instead of about myself. Every single Dear Heart piece is addressing a personal struggle, or victory, or just something that's been on my mind, so 100% experienced for sure. So glad you enjoyed it!! :D I will have other poetry though.... so I hope a break in the pattern isn't at all annoying.
