The Final Frontier

Poem Body

Human remains on the moon, huh?
Wealth will buy a lot of arrogance.

That's one small step for man,
one giant slap of irreverence
across the face of the universe.

We humans have an abundance of arrogance. I love your poem. a good smack in the face is sobering, now and then, LOL!

Letting off a bit of poetic steam with this one - a response to the Peregrine Mission One attempt which was to deliver, among other things, human remains to the moon as a memorial of sorts. The idea seems arrogant and disrespectful to me. The mission has failed due to technical issues, but if I understand correctly, this is what our future holds. Feels like another takeover by mankind...
Thank you for reading and commenting, as always!

I should have noted an explanation in the last few words, which I'll add now. Thanks!

Geezer

the rich and famous will be lauded in the history of our moon assaults;
not so much for being buried or left on the moon in some form or another,
but for the 'arrogance' that you have suggested. Mankind is afraid to admit that there are
extraterrestials, because that will mean that we are not the apex of intelligence
or virtue that we have so long professed to be. We like to think that we are the center of the universe.

...get buried on the moon for the lowest prices of the CENTURY! Buy now and $$$ave$$$!
I'm guessing Mr. Musk has already started developing commercials. What the hell is wrong with people?
Very clever and relevant piece, Lavender!

That which was once intrigue and fascination seems to be turning into a self-proclaimed right to some sort of ownership and possession of the moon.
I always appreciate your time and thoughts!
Thank you!

Something humans have way too much of. Money can buy a lot of things but can't buy you peace of mind or happiness.

Ite seems disrepectful to me also. When things wind up I think we will find. That all of our accomplishments were folly and none of them were worth a cent.

I'm all for exploring the wonderment of the universe - it is endless. But it seems this heads in the direction of ownership and claim. Very arrogant, and sad. I agree - some things will definitely prove to be a loss instead of reaping any sort of enlightenment.
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts!
