I Will Remember May

Poem Body

It is May.
The fern is green and soft,
and the willow reaches out,
eager to touch the ground.
I scoop up the earth
and crumble it between
two gloved hands.
It smells of the ages -
dark, rich, and warm.
There will be geraniums
along this path,
as well as lavender
and sage.
They will breathe
beneath the sun and the moon
and entertain fireflies at dusk.
And when the fern is tired and dry
and the willow wanes
against a cold November wind,
I will pause along this path
and remember May.

May is a wonderful month. [Of course, it being my birth month], makes a bit of difference. This makes me want to get out there in the garden and start planting. Your description of the smells and feel of the earth, is superb. Nice job. ~ Geezer.

Hello, Geezer,
Happy May birthday! Probably my favorite month and time of the year. I tend to get very sentimental during this season, leading to reading and writing lots of poetry.
Thank you for your thoughts!

Hello, Geezer,
Thank you for your suggestion / invitation - a major boost for certain! I sure will consider it, but will probably watch from the margins for awhile - I am enjoying reading, commenting and getting to know the styles of fellow poets here, as well as getting help with my own poetry.
Thank you, again!
