LIFE'S MEANING

Poem Body

First two little real stories:-

A wise professor was asked:
What is the meaning of life?

He put his hand into his inner pocket
and pulled out a little piece of mirror
and told
that since he was little
this piece of mirror had followed him
wherever he went,
he often took it out
and tried to shine light into the dark corners;

this he felt he was doing for other people,
but that he was only a medium.

He then declared that this was his meaning of life.

Another story was that of a little boy
who befriended a man who, otherwise,
hated children,
when this sailor had lived a while in the boy's home,
and was at last leaving,
the little boy came in to him and said:

"I would like to give you something,
but I haven't got anything,
so I will give you this little blue ball of wool,
its all I have."

This tiny ball of wool,
one inch across,
is sill in his possession
as something that describes
the meaning of life.

LIFE'S MEANING

We wonder at this world,
we wonder what and if, and but,
and never come to words
that can describe the whole,
only the tiny part that we ourselves impart,
and then not even understanding our own art.

We try with this and that,
we see how all takes part,
and realise that's all that we can do,
to sense those others,
just the few,
that we can see and feel,
their needs and ours entwined,
in this a life
as human kind.

There are many things that people do in this world that are seemingly of little value or worth, yet they carry the universe in their giving or holding.
Here in our house we have a couple of tiny boxes that have been given to us that contain love, given from family or friends over the years, these are the most valued of all our possessions, Thank you for the reminder, Yours Ian.T
