THANKS

Thankful (November contest)

Poem Body

I'm thankful for the gift of my two sons.
They made my life worthwhile. They are the ones
who gently prompted laughter from a frown,
those times I felt despondent, sad or down.

I'm thankful they were healthy, strong of limb
(It seemed I had my private seraphim)
and grew to adulthood warmhearted, kind -
the sort that stood defending those maligned.

I'm thankful for the passing of the years;
the opportunity to share our tears.
I'm thankful I can know a thousand joys
at just the thought and memory of my boys.

It's been, now, two long decades since one left,
bequeathing me a world of sense bereft.
But, though his going cut me like a knife,
I'm thankful I could share, with him, his life.

But, more than anything I'm thankful for,
is, when the other kingdom closed the door,
my second son was predestined to stay,
to brace me, when the other went away.

About the Author

Region, Country: Western Australia, AUS

Favorite Poets: Favourite poets? So many, so varied. I like particular songs, not necessarily the singer... and the same goes for poetry. I can honestly say though, that Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman was what inspired my love of poetry - my mother began reading it to me when I was still a baby, and it became my favourite bedtime story

You should be a proud mom dear Judy.
You're a winner anyway for raising them, aren't you?
The best to you too.

A love of two, that reaches out from the now here to the infinity of always where we will all walk one day with unconditional love of all things, beautifully written,
Yours as always, Ian xx

is a type of Angel. They are the guardsmen of The Essence. They surround the seat of God with swords drawn, their double set of wings keeping them always aloft in the Void.
This is common tradition and not necessarily Judea/Christian/Muslim tradition.
Like Cherubs (violent beggars), Seraphim are the Angels you most commonly see in Renaissance paintings such as Da Vinci's and Titian's.
