Poem Body
Uninhibited
Is a word
I do not know.
It is an entity
Separate from me.
No one else but I
Suffers for
This distorted vision
That control can be kept
That burning, scorching fire
Is weakness of the soul.
I am lovely, yes
But lonely too.
I look up at my hands
Are they hands?
Icy veins
Frost bound skin
I think I’m cold
Devoid and barren
Strangling my own throat.

This poem paints a vivid picture of the struggle of feeling trapped by one’s own inhibitions and an inability to connect with the concept of uninhibited freedom. The imagery of icy veins and frost bound skin is particularly effective at conveying a sense of emotional distance and disconnection. The line edit of “I do not understand” instead of “I do not know” emphasizes the narrator’s confusion and lack of insight into the concept of uninhibited freedom. It is an intriguing and thought-provoking poem that provides a window into the narrator’s internal journey.
I found this one...
to be very deep and understanding idea of what might be either a boon or a dismal
failure to you. I guess that the world of inhibition is very broad and I know some people are
very inhibited. I also know some that are the opposite and one might say, very uninhibted.
I tend to score well on both sides, [depending on the subject]. Anyway, the last few lines
make me think that you question if your moral code and inhibitions keep you from experiencing
things in your life that seem prevelant in other's. I think that we all have those questions,
when we see other people having things that we would like, things that could be ours if we would only...
If this is your intention, to show that struggle, you have succeeded admirably!
One thing that keeps gaining my attention is the thought of "looking [up] at my hands".
I rarely hold my hands in a manner to look up at them. I think 'down' would be more appropriate.
Nicely done! ~ Geezer.
