Without You

Poem Body

"Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass..."
~ William Wordsworth

The trees have blossoms
of pastel bangles and lace ribbons.
I am lying within the splendour in the grass,
surrounded by naive hyacinth and lily of the valley.
A yellow warbler quickens back and forth, its song
stirring the air, flirting with a jealous breeze
as the ambiance of April envelopes
me, awakening my senses.

The clouds billow along.
I am floating,
waltzing with the sun.

But too soon I am forsaken
by this fantasy, like a fool.
And the grass lies dormant beneath me -
damp and cold.

Oh, how I wish you were here.

What a beautiful poem! I always look forward to reading your work. The way you describe the nature in this poem is especially delightful, especially your line about the pastel bangles and lace ribbons in the trees. I love your ending as well, it gives this an interesting twist at the end.
Thanks for sharing!!

My husband's been gone many, many years, but sometimes a special moment feels like he should be there to share it with - like an extraordinary April day. However, we are having a beautiful spring which I am thoroughly enjoying! Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts!
Your comments are always appreciated!

This is beautiful, I want to read it again and again. My favorite line waltzing with the sun.

It's been many, many years, but every once in a while, something stirs and rises from just below the surface. But... life does move on!

I cannot imagine my life without Steven. I am handicapped and he does so very much for me (willingly and lovingly) I am in love with this poem. there is a movie by the same name; Splendor In The Grass. I have seen it, have you? Just wondering, lol. anyway, good luck on the contest, I think you have a winner poem!

Thank you for reading! These melancholy feelings rise every once in a while, and fall into a poem. Yes, I've seen the movie! Its title is actually taken from Wordsworth's poem "Intimations of Immortality." Originally I wrote, "splendid grass" but it reminded me of the feeling of the line in the poem, so I switched it to "splendour in the grass" and referenced Wordsworth. Again, thank you for reading and commenting! I am grateful!

Oh dear friend! What a splendid language use all through.
I very much enjoyed every word and despite the melancholic ending, it left me thinking it's ok to be fooled in such a fantastic day.
Thank you for sharing and always sorry for your loss.

Thank you for reading, my friend!

As always, your poems are tranquil and bring a sense of calm and peace. This one I can detect a hint of sadness and longing as you miss your loved one. Well done.
