Wood Bee

Poem Body

You rascally being,
hollowing out the wood beam above my head!
Annoying sawdust alighting onto my lap
like flaky kindling, the discarded leftovers
of your new home, scattered and tossed aside
in the May breeze

We share an arena, a residence -
yours above the porch furniture
within the old ceiling.
Mine, my daily sit-ins with the rocker,
caressing the creaking floor beneath us.

We are both burrowers, of sort,
claiming our rights, digging into our tiny spaces
in an oh-so-big world where one unique life affects another.

I wonder: if we must share this old wood porch,
could you at least sweep up after yourself?

What a wonderful piece !
It's playful tone, and vivid imagery, paints a clear picture capturing the sense of co-existence between humans and nature and adds that touch of humor in the closing lines makes it a special delightful read!

These bees are relentless. I prefer not to kill them, of course, but once they claim their spot, they are very territorial and extremely messy. My daughter told me that they do not like citrus fragrances and so I have concocted an essential oil spray that is harmless but chases them away. Seems to be working so far! We'll see!
Thank you for reading about my frustration! It was a fun write!
