Wynken, Blynken, and Nod Stripped and rewritten Jane Steele

Poem Body

I hate this poem. Really loathe it, the original I mean.

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one day
sailed far away from our earth,
into the blue skies and dark heavens.
"Where are you going, and what
do you wish?"
The vibrant, dancing sun spoke.
"We have come to sprinkle stars
into the firmament;
Said Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

They heard a keening, mournful dirge
As they were becalmed in the boat;
and the wind that now deserted them;
laughed softly to herself.
The stars began to die
and the heavens inky blackness
threatened to smoother them.
"Oh, we are sure to meet our fate,
here in the starless heavens!"
So said the three
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

All night they fought to steer towards the far light
in the sky, but it was to no avail.
They were never going to escape
the slow suffocation of the darkest hours.
Pure hell, where they had hoped to shed pure light.
As if it could not be;
And some folk thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed
Of climbing into the heavens;
But I shall name you the journeymen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
Wynken and Blynken are two eyes,
And Nod is a head,
And the boat that sailed
Is a child’s trundle-bed;
So shut your eyes while Mother sings
of things that exist
beyond our limits.
Tremble in fear and dream of
the journeymen three,
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

About This Poem

Last Few Words: Loathe the original, really leaves me cold. Find it banal and supremely irritating. Prefer my stripped back version, didn't enjoy re writing such a bloody awful poem. Heyho, life isn't always about things you like.

I didn't think so for a minute Stan, it's just one of those poems I've always disliked. I came across it as a child and it was dislike on first hearing.
Anyway, done now, don't have to look at the bloody thing again..... grin.
